I had no idea trying to get in 10,000 steps a day would be so difficult. I got my FitBit about a week ago and the most steps I have been able to take is 5,637...I see people talking about hitting their 20,000 steps a day mark and I want to cry...

I hope this gets easier....

It sure will. When I first started walking, my goal was 5000 steps. Sometimes I'd just drive to Publix or Walmart and just walk up and down the aisles. It will get easier, I promise! :)

10000 steps for me is about 4 miles. That is a lot of steps in one day for someone just getting started.

Chart your progress as you will be amazed how far you will get in a year. My first goal was 1 mile per day. Then 2. 18 months later, my goal is to average 5 miles a day. It took 30 years for me to get into as bad of shape as I was in. I knew it was going to take awhile to overcome those 30 years.

When I first started walking, I had to find a park with benches so I could walk a few hundred yards and then sit down and rest. Now, doing a 5K is a light day.

You can change the "goal" steps on the fitbit. I started with a goal of 5,000. I found the satisfaction of meeting my goal important. As time has gone by, i have upped my goal to 8,000 and it's only been 2 weeks. Change your goal for now, that's my suggestion. Good luck and happy walking!

Thank you all for the encouragement. I know that it will get easier as I lose weight. Adjusting my step goal is a great idea. Small accomplishments at this point help to keep me motivated and moving in the right direction.

Its not a big deal. Keep going on and after it you will surely do 2000 steps soon. All the best.
