I need the desire to exercise.

Hey everyone. I started jogging weeks ago. I loved it. However lately I'm feeling so lazy. I want to exercise, I want to feel great. But i want that extra 1/2 hour of sleep more!! I crawl back in bed and take that 30 min nap instead of doing what I should be! Please help! How do I get that desire back?

I usually lie to myself and say, you can do five minutes, just five minutes. Of course, after five minutes, you usually feel like doing more. And if after five minutes you do quit, well, you exercised for five minutes.

Once I got past a month, it really started to become habit. If you would have told me two years ago I would be getting up at 4:30 to go run/walk for 1.5-2 hours before work, I would have laughed in your face.

I'm one of those luck few who can wake up mostly conscience. I did find that if I tried to wake up and go straight into workout mode, I would skip a lot of days. For me, it started to click and become more consistant when I woke up and extra 5-10 minutes and just sat in the living room chair. Like a preworkout prep. Don't know why but it really helped me.

Also, keep in mind that no matter how much you sleep in, you will never recover the lost sleep. In the end the 30 extra minutes of sleep will not make you anymore rested. Better to get out of bed and workout.

I bought a Fitbit and it's really motivating me. That little sucker seems to scream at me from my wrist..."walk more!" So far it's working. I know they are not cheap, but it worked for me. Good luck! I'm sure you'll find what works for you!

Can you run at a different time per day, like over lunch (and work a bit later) or immediately after work? For me, exercising mid-day over a long lunch works best.

I hate getting up in the mornings.

I hate exercising late at night

10-2 = just right!

The other thing that helps me is I set monthly goals. For September it is 130 miles running and 120 miles biking. I am at 82 for the month as of today and on pace for the running. The bike....well...not so much.

Signing up for an event suck as a 5k is helpful. Now you are exercising for that and not just to exercise. For me it is triathlons and most recently I signed up for a spring marathon. My first triathlon motivated me to work so that I could finish and not drown along the way. Now I am motivated to place in my age group and I want to do an Ironman and dream of qualifying for Kona!

Have you tried anything else like a Zumba class or Yoga? Also getting a walking/jogging buddy may help too (because they can gripe when you don't want to show up).
