I enjoy working out and weight training but got away from that passion as my weight crept higher and higher.

I am 1.5 weeks out and finally have the energy and will to get back to my fitness.  When can I start with weights and strength strength training?  My goal is Cross fit but I have to work up to that.

Thanks!

Like any major surgery, 6 weeks is when most surgeons give their patients the go ahead to start weight training. Walking is all that is allowed so early out of your surgery. My surgeon allowed me to start swimming at 4 weeks.

Remember, if you try to pu**** while your body is healing on the inside you could give yourself hernias.

Highest Weight: 340 (7/2/14)  Initial Consult: 327.8 (2/24/15) Home Weigh In on Surgery Date: 291.8 (5/11/15) Today's Weight: 187.4 (5/20/16) Total So Far: 152.6 Pounds!!!!!!

I had to wait until I got clearance from Doctor - and I waited a few weeks longer, just to be sure - about 8 weeks. (Someone told me it takes twice as long as your insides to heal as your outside, so I waited twice as long as my incisions took to heal - Ok, this may be an old wives tale, but it was OK for me.)

I enjoyed the rest to recover from any ailments that had been building, although I did have to go back to lower weights.  I did not have any post-surgery issues by waiting until I had clearance - I did not ru****  I had RNY and did not want stitches or anything else to rip.

But I use the machines, so I have less chance of injury and work with a trainer.  Using free weights may be longer.

Lift On!!   Let's build those fat-burning muscles.

when your doctor says...

If you go the crossfit route be sure you fully understand and work within your limitations.  From what I read crossfit produces a high number of injuries because the inherit competitive nature of it
