Charting Progress
I think it is pretty important to log your exercise for those days when you feel you are not making much progress. For July, I have run/walked 77 miles and biked another 50. When I look at last year for July, I did 60 miles and no bike. Back then, a fast mile was 17 minutes and now 17 minutes is a slow day. On a normal run/walk, I can now average 12-14 minutes/mile over 5 to 7 miles. A year ago, a 2 mile walk was normal and 3 was a long walk and I averaged about 18-20 minutes per mile. Now, 4 miles is a short run/walk and normal is 5 to 7 miles. A year ago, my resting heart rate was in the high 70's. Now it is in the low 50s.
We tend to live in the moment and it is easy to forget how far we have come in a relative short time. When I get up at 4:30 to go work out, I constantly ask myself, "Who the **** are you and what did you do with Gregg?"
