First 5K coming up post surgery - questions
I had RNY on May 7th and am participating in my first 5K on June 20. I have been cleared by my doctor and have no restrictions so I can jog/run if I want to. I've walked/"jogged" this particular 5K for the last two years. They have a water station at the halfway mark, but I am not sure if that will be enough now that I have had surgery. Should I be carrying a water bottle so that I stay hydrated and not lose 50 minutes of valuable drinking time? :)
Any suggestions/advice would be appreciated.

I think you'd be fine just using the water station at the halfway mark. I find I can't drink too much before-hand because I'd have to pee a million times - nothing worse than having to go during a race!! I usually quit drinking at least an hour before...and make up for it after. Good luck!!

I've done a number of 5ks post-op, and I've always been fine with just the water station and then water before and after the race. (And my times are around 50 minutes so...)

Thank you everyone! I think I will try to use just the water stations. I didn't really think about the having to go the bathroom if I have all the water.

If you have any doubt or it will be hot do what makes you most comfortable. you can get small hydration bottles that strap to the palm of your hand so you really don't even carry them. I am a heavy sweater and if I am running on the weekends I will carry a bottle with me always. In a race I typically won't on shorter distances but longer I do.
