Walking definitely works the thigh muscles & is low impact exercise you can do anywhere. As far as the core muscles, I'm not too sure on that one, maybe yoga? You can try getting a gym membership to try out different machines & take classes there to see what you like. There's plenty of promotions going on now that it's the beginning of the year.

I do yoga for pretty much everything :) Pilates is also awesome for your core. All yoga and pilates require is a mat and I use the same mat for both. There are lots of exercise videos and apps out there!
