Am I doing it wrong?
HI! I can speak to this because it happened to me (i.e. such a comment).
First-is this person a trainer? Do they know ALL your goals?
Their comment does not make sense. If you take the 40 minutes most days of the week (i.e. 6) that equals to be 240 minutes which is around 4 hours. As a runner-you typically have ONE day per week(if not two) that is long slow distance where you will be running 6-8 miles. This (these two) run(s) alone will consume most of your "allotted" exercise time.
As a runner you NEED to stretch/do the yoga or you are setting yourself up for IT band issues, shin splints and a hella other injuries.
Dont count the yoga as exercise becasue it doesnt get your heart rate up. It is quasi exercise.
As a woman (and a person who's metabolism is probably in the toilet from years of dieting) you NEED the weight lifting.
You also need ONE or TWO days of rest back-to-back to let your body repair itself. I give myself "rest" every 7-9 days. If your fitness gains arent what you are putting in. Try resting more frequently (crazy i know but it works).
Good luck!

Three pounds below Goal!!! Yay !
The last part of your comment is one of the things that bothers me about the comment the guy made to me in the first place. I'm pretty sure that -you- don't know what I "NEED." Know what I'm saying?
But I appreciate the sentiment behind your comment. So thanks.

Your right. I dont know what you need. I am not a personal trainer. Those are the people you can work with.
I guess learning to sort the crap out from the fact is something one has to do when they post on a forum.
I hope you know what you need, dont over train, and dont get associated injuries.
My wish for you is that get exactly what you want, and accomplish your exercise goals injury free in the timelines put forth by you.
Have a great new year.

Whatever works for you...listen to your body and keep moving forward in the manner you feel is working for you. I've had, and continue to receive, advice on a regular basis and I always listen and sometimes even try new things but am mindful of what is working for me. It has been fun for me being in several exercise groups, all of us doing our own thing and reporting on it, to see what works for others as well and how supportive we have all been for each other. Keep up the great work... I'll have to look up parkour...thanks for that!
