I am one week post op, before surgery I was a fit "fat" girl and could walk 3-4 miles pretty easily and did this a few days a week along with other things. Now I get winded walking 1/4 mile. The first few days I thought it was gas making it hard to take a deep breath, but now the gas is gone and I still have a hard time. Is this normal??

Your just had major surgery and your body is healing and recovering!  Be kind to yourself.  You'll get back to 3-4 miles.  :)

It's very normal to have to work back up to your pre-op levels of physical exertion. Any time you take a break from exercising, you are going to lose a small amount of physical conditioning and readiness. This happens to me every time I take a break from training and I have found that the best thing to do is just keep at it until you regain previous conditioning levels.

The good news is that it is a lot easier to attain previously held conditioning levels than it is to go from never having been at a certain level of fitness to a new higher level.
