Just curious what everyone is using to track calories and exercise...I'm interested in a pedometer but there are so many on the market now ...too many to chose

The only really accurate way to track calorie burn is with a heart rate monitor - I like the Polar H7 since it works with my iPhone so I don't need a separate watch/device to use it.  I use Runkeeper to track my formal exercise.  Fitbits are fairly awesome for tracking your general activity levels and they have a robust and well supported ecosystem.  (And Fitbit syncs with Runkeeper.)

Do you have to wear a chest band with the Polar H7?

My sports watch comes with a HRM. When I was tracking such things, I used a formula and an excel spreadsheet that I plugged the average HR into. I also used the calories the watch said. Plus some other sources. Then I'd pick a number that was a consensus of all those numbers.

Later on I and a BodyMedia FIT and I loved that.

Now I don't track.

I'm pretty new at this but I use MyFitnessPal to track my food. I mostly use their mobile app but sometimes use the website.

I got a FitBit Flex about 3 weeks ago and it's one of the best things I've bought. Besides motivating me to go for more walks, it's helped me add more steps throughout the day like parking a little farther away, etc

I like Vivofit because you can use it in water and the battery lasts a year.  It tracks steps, calories burned and sleep patterns.
