Finished my First Half-Ironman!
Well friends, the day came and went. Months of training, learning, pushing myself to new levels, all came down to 7 hours of my first (and possibly only....during the last 25 kms if the bike course, I day-dreamed of selling my bike and the things I could buy) half-Ironman. A 2k swim, 90k bike and 21k run. It was very difficult and i'm proud to say that i've done it....and yet I want to move on to a FULL....which is crazy, this I know! LOL. I wonder if we RNYers are cut out for 14+ hours of exercise. hmm
For now, I hope to qualify for Boston in the fall, and I'm doing a Full Ironman swim (3.8 km) next month.
Surgery March 23/2011. Completed three full marathons and two half marathons, two half Ironman distances. Completed my first Full Ironman distance (4 km swim, 180 km bike, 42.2 km (full marathon) run) in Muskoka August 30/2015. Next Ironman Lake Placid July 23/2017!
CONGRATS!!!!! And, yes, if any other human can do endurance sports, so can we!!! So happy for you!! :)

It's mostly nutrition I worry about. Very hard to keep up. A full ironman would be 14+ hours for me. I'm going the try anyway ;)

I think the nutrition will be a challenge! However, that said, I think you can manage it. I saw a site for an RD that works with "bariathletes", athletes that have embraced endurance sports post gastric bypass and she helps work with them to achieve their sports goals. I can't remember her name but do a search for bariathlete and see what comes up! I also saw a story or 2 (not lot of us) of post gastric bypass/sleevers embracing the lifestyle and achieving the goal!
Thank you! I have done more research, and yes there are a few out there. Didn't know I landed myself into a new category of "bariathlete" lol. Who knew I would get this far?

Thanks!! I'm going to give it a go next year. Might head down to Kentucky :)
