I don't have any friends to run with so I envy you.  My husband has been a runner for 20+ years and is thrilled I am now running.  The only thing is that we have 2 toddlers and so someone has to watch them when we run lol.  Sometimes, we take them in the jogging stroller but someone inevitably gets cranky and wants out.  I enjoy the solitude of running, though.  I am never by myself being a sahm of two little girls 2 and 3! so I guess I run for peace and quiet.

I have a question for you and Bill: Since you both run fairly good distances, what is your diet like?  Also, how do you guys stay hydrated on long runs during the summer?

Sorry it took me so long to reply! For hydration, I run with a fuel belt (amphipod) for greater than 6 mi but less than 14mi and usually stick to water but sometimes add either a Nuun tab (esp when it gets hot & I need extra sodium or elect) or some G2 powder or Mio Fit for flavor. For runs > 14mi, I use my Camelback, which has a capacity of 1.5L. I drink A LOT normally, so I probably hydrate more than my peers! On some long runs of 20+mi, I've even filled up my Camelback mid-run, one or more times. We'll see how trails impact my hydration.... Diet, I don't really change much for distances less than 13mi. I might add in an extra protein shake, but often try not to eat my exercise calories. However, in prepping for races or fueling for higher distances, I up fats 10days before a marathon and up carbs 3 days before, and eat VERY neutral food 24hrs before a major race or marathon (e.g. protein shakes and chicken). And Gas-X chewables are my constant companion, as well as Devrom internal deod. Running tends to shake loose the farts.... And I make sure I poo before long runs or workouts, as pooping oneself is not fun (and I speak from experience).
