Friday workouts/training/etc

I ran with a new friend from my training group and we did a super-fun run that, for once, didn't get obstructed by snow banks! We did over 6 mi but the pace surprised me, and not in a good way, 12 min/mile. I haven't been that slow in a while and find this trend.... disturbing. Hoping once the snow crap is over, I can get back to focusing on speedwork and get back to my 10/10:30 pace...

I don't think that is slow!! I cross trained on the elliptical for 65 minutes on Friday.  Today was the end of week 4 of my running C25K.  Anyone got any advice on tender shins?

Not a PT, but for shins, sometimes it's a matter of your body adjusting to the pounding of running but do make sure you stretch out well, including a stretch (not sure the name of it, but basically involves pointing your toes and pulling your bent knee behind you) that stretches out both your quads and your shins. Runner's World and YouTube can be good resources for suggestions on stretching, form, etc.
