Yep, I completed my first, Marine Corps, in October. I joined a training group that started in May, so we trained for 5-6 months.

I want to do one, but knowing myself I don't want to do it in the Fall as I would struggle to get in the training, I want to do one in May but it only gives me about 4 months to get ready, planning on doing a 1/2 in March...any thoughts?

1/2 is probably a better idea, as you have enough time to train for that. To do a marathon safely, it's really important to train safely. Trying to amp up your mileage too quickly, especially for your first, might set you up for injury (or at the very least, leave you feeling like shiznit!). However, if you're willing to travel, there are always marathons in different areas that could fit into whatever season you'd be able to train! Runner's World always has a list by  geographic area in the back of each mag, even international ones.

3 miles of running, but overshot the distance and walked another half mile home following the end of the session.
