Body fat percentage versus weight goal?

As I am approaching my weight goal, it is getting harder to take the pounds off (duh)- was working some numbers this morning, and knowing my current body fat percentage is around 36%, and my goal body fat percentage is to be less than 34%- I realize that this will only put me at a weight around 164, which is still 20 pound above my weight goal... Interested in hearing others thoughts...

I have much greater confidence in the body fat % than those ^%$$#@!! BMI charts. For example, at 5' 10" weighing 220# I am still nearly 50#s from the BMI chart.... YET, my body fat % is 15.6%... should I try to lose that additional 50#s? I don't think so, and neither does the Surgeon or the NUT.

One website I looked at showed 25-31% body fat being the average range for women... and then has adjustments based on your age.

What do your health professionals recommend?

I never had a goal weight. I stopped losing when I liked how I looked in the mirror.

The charts for recommended body fat are as bogus as the ones for BMI, IMO though. Only in the other direction. I'd be really fat looking if my body fat was as high as they claim is okay and normal. I like to stay under 20%. I like I'm about 25% now because I haven't been able to work out like I want to.

Originally I had the WLS goal to get into normal BMI and didn't really track body fat% as much, but once I started running, I was a bit more interested to making sure my fat stays relatively low compared to muscle mass - - Christmas cookies have pushed my fat% up a bit recently, but gonna try to get that back down - - and I think that focusing on proportional fitness can help one get the focus off of less descriptive data, like lbs or clothes size or even BMI.

I am looking at this as well, pathchic.  I would like to be in a body fat% of 18-20.  That means busting my buns at the gym with a trainer but I would like to achieve this goal for me to see how I feel and look.

To achieve that level of body fat means going below my initial goal weight of 130 lbs, and closer to my surgeon's goal of 115 lbs.  I am 5'5" and thought initially I would look too skinny and anemic but now I am psyched up to see if I can reach it to have that extra cushion for the maintenance years.

Believe in yourself and don't ever stop dreaming!

I am also doing the proper body fitness activity. it gives benefits to my health. I have targeted about 50lb and 5 stone.  I am controlling my diet and taking some fat free diet always. I take salads, fresh fruits, skimmed milk to control my weight.

I just did two body fat percentage calculations on two different websites.  One came in at 46%, the other was 27%.  These were based on the same various body measurements, etc. and not to be confused with BMI.  I don't know which to believe.  My BMI came in at 30.4%.
