5 day Pouch Test
I'm guessing your RNY was actually 2012, not 2013?
I've heard good things about the 5 day pouch test... probably worth a shot
Why would anyone think the 5-day pouch test is a crash diet???
I'm too much of a newbie to know much about it, there are a couple of gals (Marie, & Lori) who seem to know quite a bit about it in a FB group - "bariatric newbies"
Because it meets the definition. You only do it for 5 days. You cut out entire groups of food for those days. You aren't eating how you will eat for the rest of your life. The first couple fo days you are not eating healthy or well-balanced meals.
Basically, if it didn't have the name Pouch or Test in it and a non-WLS friend of yours came to you and said: I found this great diet: You have nothing but protein shakes for 2 days, then nothing but soft foods and you lose 5-10 pounds, what would you say to them?
You'd say (a) that's mostly water weight, (b) that's a crash diet.
There is this idea that this diet is some special bariatric-approved diet but it's not. It was invented by a patient. There is also this idea that becaues it mimics how we eat the first month or so when we had surgery that somehow this is a good thing. But we were on a liquid and then soft diet at first because our stomach had just been cut open and was healing. It was a medical necessity. We don't eat that way because it's healthy. Most programs want us off that kind of eating as soon as it's safe to do so in order to learn how to eat for the rest of our lives.
This is the rest of our lives. Going on a crash diet every couple of months to drop some water weight just to gain it all back is no way to live and one of the reason I had surgery is to get off that crazy train. However, I've seen in my almost 6 years of being on these boards that there are some people who can't get off the yo-yo dieting train. And some of those people swear by this diet. If that's what you want for yourself, knock yourself out. I want something better.

This is the exercise forum. Did you mean to post about a crash diet in it? Because you'll get more response in the RnY forum or the Regain forum or some other forum not about exercise and fitness.
