Someone please talk me down from the ledge....

From the Marine Corps Marathon website:

  • MCM and the Government Shutdown

Since the government shutdown occurred, the Marine Corps Marathon continues its coordination with hopes of a conclusion in time to host the event without impact. Without a resolution to the government shutdown this week, the MCM as planned is in jeopardy of being cancelled.

While still considering and exploring all possible options, the MCM has targeted this Saturday, October 19 as the date to officially notify runners of the status of the event. It is sincerely the hope of everyone associated with the organization that MCM participants can run as planned.

I think I need to take a sedative and wake up tomorrow when Congress has grown a pair and the gov't is up and running and NOT butting it's face into the marathon that I spent the last 5 months training for.....

I am just so terribly sad for you. This is heartbreaking and a result that is just horrendous for so many folks who have been working so long and so hard!

While my prayers are that you will be able to run in this race, my 'back up' prayer is that another marathon that works in your schedule AND is a terrain you are ready for will be within a week or two of this one.

Can't even imagine where your head is right now-but sending you a big hug from NC!!!

Every day is better than the day before...and it was a pretty great day!

That is just awful....I will definitely be hoping and praying that the situation is resolved and you can compete in the race you have trained so hard for. If not, hoping that you can find another race to do.

I am inspired by your training and your determination!!

Yours in WLS Journey,

Bill Mac

Oh man... I had not thought about that effecting your race!!  :(

I guess part of the race must be on "national" parks area?  I know in theory the mall was closed, but I was thinking the MCM was on the roads around it which are controlled by DC police...

Got my fingers crossed here for you!

I really hope your marathon goes on!  But if not...do you know the route? I'd see if I could get a bunch of people who are also running to just run the route with me. Not as good as an official marathon, but at least you'd get to run!

Thank you all for your kind words and support! No doubt that marathon training, like most things in life, is more mental/emotional than we can ever predict.... Today it's looking like there's a good chance the gov't shutdown will be ending (or at least be deferred) soon, so I'm hopeful that MCM will be back on track and we'll all be able to enjoy our national parks nationwide again!
