How well can my body tone up?

I am 40 lbs over weight. What should I start doing for exercise to tone up this nastiness?
I know I have to go on a stricked eating lifestyle change to re-lose the weight again.
What should my daily meal plan be ,in the simplest of meal plans?
And what exercises should I jump into to tone this flab?

Thanks for ALL input!

Squats and Lunges for your posterior chain (butt, legs)

Pushups and Dips for your arms and chest

Planks and Crunches for your core and abs

HIIT Cardio to burn the fat

If you have questions about any of these I can point you in the right direction.

Tank you, what are dips? I have to get back track of eating the correct foods I did after my surgery.

Hi Barbara,

What a great question, way to start the process of getting back on track!

One thing about toning a specific area in that you can make a specified area bigger (gaining muscle tone), but you can not make it smaller by trying to spot reduce.  The only way to make an area smaller is by losing excess fat.

As a Certified Personal Trainer I am a big advocate of circuit training.  It combines cardio and light weights, gives you the highest calorie expenditure and the most "Bang for your buck".

I encourage you to find a fitness class lead by a Certified Trainer.  They will be able to write safe and effective workouts, and also make sure you are doing the exercises correctly to avoid injury and joint pain. Do your homework on the fitness instructor to make sure they are qualified. Also many classes will allow you to try a complimentary workout to see if it is a good fit for you.  Look for one that caters to all fitness levels, they typically have a good mix of people of different shapes and sizes. If the workout advertises that it burns 1,000 calories in one hour, find a different class.  I am not a fan of exaggerated false promises.

I don't give advice on specific nutrition plans.  But...just remember that if a diet claims rapid weight loss or seems to good to be true, it probably is. The formula for weight loss is truly calories in vs. energy out.

A sensible well-balanced diet that includes protein, carbohydrates & good fat is the best option for a healthy body. Make sure your calorie intake is not too low. I personally consume between 1,200 & 1,400 calories eating 6 small meals throughout the day aiming for 40 % protein, 40% carbs & 20 % healthy fat.

Gather your information and put a plan in action.  You got this!

Hi I'm Sandra. I'm 30 years old and I am above 300lbs. However...I have lost 45 already...and looking to lose A LOT more.

I currently live in Fresno California (about 3 hours from LA) and I am looking for buddies to work out with. I have a friend who lives in South Carolina and every day we would text message each other our work outs. Well unfortunately she had a tragic loss in her family and she no longer has the momentum. Although I am doing everything I can for her and she KNOWS I will be here for her when she's ready, I want to continue my workouts.

Because of the awesomeness that we have started...I realized via cell phone (APP, so no phone numbers are exchanged) I am able to work out with whoever wants to exercise. So that is why I'm here. I already have a group started...but its REEEEEEEEALLY SLOW. My goal is to have 2 or 3 workouts posted each day.

All of this will make more sense if you check out the link below. It is a local womens only group, but I am able to extend the WORKOUT version (vs personal in town meetups) to those far and wide. Its free, easy, and innovative so if you want to just at least check it out let me know ok! =)

PS: I'm looking for people who will actually POST workouts...vs join and never do anything :P
Its a motivational mobile group. Check it out....btw this is not spam.. !
