Can't walk well....hand weights/home exercises
Hi everyone,
I'm new here. My surgery (RNY) is scheduled for Monday. I'm so excited (and nervous a little bit ;-)
I bought some hand weights. 2 lb, 3 lb and 5 lbs. to do some strength training when I feel better after recovery. I also have some exercise bands.
I have an ab machine, treadmill and recumbent bike, but they are all useless now because I have a very serious knee injury that makes almost anything involving my legs very, very painful. I go back to the Pain Specialist next month and I think my pain meds have stopped working completely. (Most nights the pain wakes me up). I use a walker to get around and grocery shop online because my mobility is severely limited.
I have been overweight for about 10 years after taking steroids for 2 years. I know now that I shouldn't have done that, but I was an obedient patient back then. Sigh. I gained about 120lbs from that experience, lost some on my own and gained about 80lbs in the past three years since injuring my knee.
I do my best exercising in water, but won't be cleared to go back into the pool for several weeks, so I'm going to do what I can at home with the weights. Any ideas, suggestions or happy thoughts are appreciated!
Thanks,
MJ
I've posted these in the VSG forums over the past week because there are a number of people who have some physical difficulties. Hopefully you can pull out the exercises that you can do and build your own routine.
These are exercises that you can do in a chair. I have been posting my daily beginners exercises every day in the Main forum as well as the VSG forum.
