10/26 here for the Greensboro Marathon!!  Ran 20 miles last week as my long run, 4:17 (12:50 avg mile pace)

This is my second run with FUEL, this time I used a few different options I picked up at the running store.  Gatorade Endurance Chews, Honey Stinger and Honey Stinger Chews.

I eat one at a time while on a walk break (using Galloway Run/Walk/Run strategy), none of them seemed to bother me.  I started them at mile 5 and ate through mile 16 or 17 and got "tired" (bored?) of them and quit.  But next time I will make myself keep eating until the finish.

Hydration, bought and tried using a 10 oz bottle that has velcro deal and straps to my hand.  Worked out really well, did not throw off my stride and refilled it 4 times during the 20 miles.  (So I drank about 50 oz then on my run)

I was DONE mentally at the 20 miles that was my goal that day and so I stopped, about 2-3 miles away from home and called the wife for a ride home.  In theory I could have made it physically but basically if I tell myself that is what I am doing, I really DON'T feel like going further afterwards.

SO...with that in mind, my next LONG run will be Saturday 10/5, (23 miles goal) and then taper for the 3 weeks until the race on 10/26 is my plan!!

SERIOUSLY considering my first ever tattoo after the race to mark the achievement in my life.  Whatcha think about this design?

Oh! I can't see your tattoo. Can you hit the link button, and try again?

I did 22 miles a few weeks ago, in the rain..ugh. I was happy with my time, and I hope to be under 4:30 for the race. We shall see!

I have 20 miles to run this weekend, then 14.5, then taper. Yikes!! I have played around with nutrition, and this weekend i'm trying out what will actually be on the run. I have had gels, and can tolerate them (which is surprising because I dump and have hypoglycemic issues). I will be doing this weekend's run with Powerbar gels, and gatorade and water. I actually ran 14.5 last weekend with a kid's chewy granola bar and I felt great on that lol!!

I run with a water/fuel belt. I don't know if I would want to hold something the entire marathon!!

Good luck!

Will see if that works better for the Tat!!

One of my "concerns" is late October temps, I am guessing 50s or so at 8am, and maybe 60s or even 70s at mid day.  I am thinking a long sleeve tech shirt, shorts and possibly a CHEAPO sweatshirt that I can throw away if I really wanted to?

Was looking at running pants for the upcoming cold season.. best price I have found is for FILA brand at Kohls, $27 (less the wifes 30% discount thing, so $20ish)

Oh wow. I'm guessing someplace warm! I did a sprint tri 3 months after surgery LOL. Not exactly recommended. I passed out at the end, because it was hot, and back then I couldn't drink all the water I needed. very silly of me.

Good luck!

HA yeah, Florida.  Northwest Florida, so it is usually borderline wetsuit legal for the swim, but at 600yds most people just tough it out.

Please consult your surgeon & nutritionist for how to do it their way.  Biggest regret? Not doing this 10 years ago! Every day is better than the day before...and it was a pretty great day!
