Knee band for pain abatement?

I ran 2.83 miles today and the last .47 miles my left knee started bothering me. It intensified and I pushed through. I elevated during work and within a few hours it was fine.

I don't want to deal with a knee issue I could have prevented. Do those black bands help? And if so, what are the guidelines for use?

thanks!!!

Those IT band straps can be useful but it depends where on your knee the pain was, like if the issue is actually your IT Band. When I first started running, I used knee braces for a while (6 months****ill my knees got stronger and no longer needed them. I had a PT once say that if your pain is generalized, not much to worry about but if you can point to a  specific place (like a specific ligament), it may be something to consult a dr on. Good job w/ running though!!

ditto on following up with a doc or even a sports massage.  My IT felt like someone driving a screwdriver in the outside part of my right knee - a few weeks of strengthening exercises and foam rolling and I haven't had issues since.... but knees? Not something to guess at  :/

The surgeon who did my ACL and MCL repairs is still in network, I will see if I can get in with him shortly. Thanks!
