Muscle Development after RNY

OK; please bear with me as I am brand new to this website.

I had Gastric Bypass on February 22nd of this year.  I've been working VERY hard in the gym and I am actually seeing muscle development.

My question is how will this change my overall weight...when will the scale start to creep back up despite the fact that I'm not even 6 months post-op?

Well, muscle burns more calories than fat mass, so actually you'll be doing your metabolism a solid by working out early on! Why do you think your weight is going to be creeping up? If you're losing fat but building muscle, the sheer numbers still would put you on a net losing trend b/c the muscle isn't going to weigh as much as the fat (unless you're roiding up like the Arnold!). So worry not - you're doing your body good! Just make sure some cardio is happening too in addition to strength training.

To see how you are losing fat and gaining muscle you can get a body fat % test. In water is the best way. Here there's a mobile van that parks outside of various gyms, so it's pretty convenient.

Just as a gage, I'm a woman, 5'4". I work out 4x/week intense circuit training with a personal trainer.
April 1st I weighed 160 pounds, my body fat was 28%.
July 1st I weighed 144 pounds: I'd lost 17 pounds of fat and gained one pound of muscle. Body Fat = 19%.

So you won't be "gaining" any weight due to muscle gain, nothing noticeable anyhow. But your clothes will fit better and your biceps will rock.

VSG 10/26/12 • HEIGHT 5'4"
GW = 140 lbs met Month 9
CW = 133

Loss per Month: 8 >  9 > 7 > SURGERY  > 15 > 10 > 10 > 10 > 7 > 5 > 6
  > 6 > 5 > 5 > 0

It works if you work it; it sorta works if you sorta work it; and it doesn't work if you don't work it.
