Weekend training / races

Saturday was an ALL day yard work day. Craziness - cut grass, cleared / filled / planted 3 flower beds and took my invalid mom swimming for the first time in years ... that was awesome! (she is sore today, just from trying to stand in the water :(  )

This morning was group Tri training. The Gulf was too rough, so we swam 200yrds in the bay before a scheduled 12 mile bike. I say "scheduled" because the lady I was with and I totally missed the turnaround and , since I hadn't reset my bike computer, had no idea how far we had gone.  We were determined not to quit and find out we cut it short, and we saw cyclists coming back from up ahead, so we kept going.  Ended up with 17 miles lol

Short walk with a friend at work later on...

Saturday was rest day (from running, unfortunately, but was more eventful food-wise & emotionally than I would have preferred!)

Sunday -  a REALLY GOOD 13 mile run with my marathon group! I just love my new running buddies and they make long distances fly like a breeze.... rained on us a bit towards the end, but it felt good.

I can't wait to start training with my trainer  - I will be on my bike while she runs, but I think being with someone while I train some will help my desperation / depression that seems to be building with each perceived "failure".

That's a worrisome statement - what do you think you're failing? If it's perceived, then you know it's changeable - you just gotta change how you frame it!

Well, I say perceived because I trust my trainer's judgement more than my own in cases like this (I tend to be extremely hard on myself).  My 5k times have increased and it drives me crazy. I could get over that part except it is becoming more and more difficult for me to run the whole time even though I am training.  That is why she is getting me to take a 2nd rest day each week. She has also suggested I not register for 5ks since I just use them to beat myself up instead of having fun again.  My trainer did remind me there was a day when I never thought I would see a 5k time less than 40 minutes, and that it used to be that jogging 30 seconds thrilled my very soul.   So I am working on it.... just confidence and self esteem.

I am extremely hard on myself too!  I am slower now on my mile pace.  I know it is due to the Texas heat.  Could heat be the cause for you?  Or do you run inside?  I have added almost 1 minute per mile due to heat.  Now I run at night or earlier.  Good luck!

Thanks.. yeah, I totally think it is the heat. My trainer says it is the heat.  My perfectionism says I am going back to my old ways of slacking.  Today my trainer had me running in the parking garage - proved to myself I can run in the heat! lol

Hubby and I are training for a 15K so yesterday my husband took me to run on "the hills".   We went up and down the hill for about 10 minutes and then one of us would run around the hilly 3/4 mile area while one of us would do the hill up/down and stay close to the kids.  Then we would switch.  I think I only got it about 2 miles but I am a little sore in my thighs.  I was nauseous because it was 97 degrees outside!  The 15K is going to be hilly.  I haven't ran more than 6.5 miles so I have 3 weeks to get prepared.  Yay!
