One week post op RNY and walking....
I just had my surgery on 6/4/13 and have been home since 6/7/13. I have been walking about 1/2 mile per (walked 1 mile while in the hospital on on 6/6 and 1/2 mile on 6/5) day until yesterday when I did 1 1/2 miles. My mind wants me to move faster but I know I need to take it easy. Any advice to a newbie who may be too eager? My plan is to walk 1 - 1 1/2 miles per day until I see my surgeon next week. I really want to get into the gym and start weight training and really working out but I know I need to heal first and get cleared by my doc.......How did others deal with this and cope with being antsy?

Hey girl,
I can't really add any advise, as I am having surgery July 3 but I am very curious about this!! I can't wait to start being really physical again. I want that life back!!! I am so glad you had a good experience and were able to get up and start walking :) I look forward to comments. I ran 5k in 42 mins at 250lbs..so I figure if I could do that..imagine what can happen at a healthy weight!! I am so excited for you.

Most of us put it off as long as possible so probably don't have an answer for you :)
Read a book or something. Get in the hot tub. Garden. Essentially, focus on something else. Figure out some way to not be antsy, you can probably use that skill in the future for other things in your life. You don't want "feeling antsy" to some day be the reason why you overeat.
You'll get there, good for you for at least WANTING to work out!
I still had a bad case of "lazy butt" after my surgery, and I was so tired that I could barely get in my minimum, so it sounds like you are off to a better start than I was! I don't really have a good answer for you, except to keep that motivated spirit for the weeks and months ahead! And the best news is that (as far as I can tell), your energy level will continue to rise so you will find it easier and easier to be fully involved in exercise!
Good luck and congrats on the major first steps of a completely new you!
