Typically the longer the course the less I will want to eat.  A half marathon will shut down my appetite for most of the day.  Half Ironman shut me down until the next morning.

 

The issue with not eating is that it will hinder your recovery.  You need to get the right nutrition into your system to help start the recovery process.  The right Carb/Protein ratio goes a long way for recovery.  For me since I know I wo't eat much I usually have a protein shake with fruit.

 

When you think about it; it kinda sucks!  We bust our buts and burn tons of calories and then don't feel like feasting when we actually could calorie wise.

LOL. I know!! After all the calories burned and I think I got in maybe 800 for the day. I never thought about bringing something myself for after the race, I assumed that the food provided would do (but in my bag was a chocolate bar, potato chips, a pita and a banana...no protein!!) Clif Bars were there, so I did grab a bar and get half in from there.

 

Surgery March 23/2011. Completed three full marathons and two half marathons, two half Ironman distances. Completed my first Full Ironman distance (4 km swim, 180 km bike, 42.2 km (full marathon) run) in Muskoka August 30/2015. Next Ironman Lake Placid July 23/2017!
