First 1/2 Marathon done! And thank you!

Well, I did it. I finished my first 1/2 marathon with a time of 2:21:05. I added three minutes of a potty break. booo. But necessary. Hopefully Mother Nature will be nicer to me when I run my Full in the fall.

Thank you to everyone who helped with my nutrition and gels question. I drank water following my gels, and that worked great. I ate 1/2 a bagel with peanut butter two hours before the race, and then had a gel 15 minutes before we began. And a couple of chews and a gel during the race.

Anyone NOT hungry after a race? I went ate a bit of a banana, and couldn't get anything else in. We went out for brunch and I could barely look at my omelet.

It took me at least four hours before I could eat a meal.

It always takes me a few hours after a long run to feel hungry.  I eat anyways as the carbs help your body recover.  Even if it is just liquid things: protein shakes or soft stuff like egg whites.  Your body needs to recover or you will get lactic build up.

Congrats on your Half!!!! That's a great time and it sounds like you did your nutrition right.

Yeah, I'm almost never hungry right after a long run or race but then it comes on with intensity - I get the "rungries". One tip that I've started to do in my marathon training is hydrating alot the day before a long run but then stopping all liquids 1-2 hrs before running and no caffeine in the morning. It'd been a choice between an easy poo before running (cuz that's what coffee does for me) or not having to pee every 20 min. I've actually been able to do up to 8 miles without peeing! (that's actually progress for me)

Rungries...I love that word. I think I finally got them at dinner, but still couldn't get much in. I think it's due to my gallbladder issues.

I would have been fine for the race without going to the bathroom....TOM was my issue....day 2....horrible. :-(

Good job! I'm glad you made it through without any nutrition issues.

Are you going to have your gallbladder out before your fall race? I ask because I had my gallbladder out pre-RNY and it was a terrible recovery. I felt rotten and just plain run down for a couple of months after. Of course, I had to have mine out in an emergency fashion because I was sick with pancreatitis and I was 140 pounds overweight and a smoker..... So, needless to say, you're probably in a much place :)
