I know...my son (who is 13) kept asking why I was crying.  I tried to explain what the Boston Marathon means to so many people, and what it means to cross any finish line....what a joy filled day it was for so many...and then the explosions.  I tried to explain to him as a medical person ( I am a NP in an ER) and the toll it takes on providers and staff and EMS and Police.    He understood it was bad, but I think he saw it from a few different sides and the humanity of it.    He looked at me and said, Mom, you need to make sure that you go for your ride.  He is a smart  boy.  I went and met up with a new group of ladies riders.  It was good to be among people who understood it (not that anyone ever understands anything this horrible) and I rode for 17 miles.   I laughed and cried....and tomorrow I will run.

How wise of your son! And very true, that these things we're not supposed to understand - cruelty should be beyond the comprehension of compassionate people.... All we can do is say a prayer and refuse to be kept down - - run, ride and do it in the memory of those lost & injured.
