Quick Question

Hi All,

First off, thank you for taking the time to read this. I'm having an issue with results. Everyone I know keeps saying they see major changes, but I'm not seeing it. I work out 6 days a week for 30-45 minutes a day. My weight is ******g me off; I'll lose like 1lb a week, if that. I have a protein shake for breakfast, peanut butter and carrots for lunch, and a small, protein heavy dinner, and I'm just not seeing results. I had surgery on December 20, 2012. I do take measurements, and I see some small changes there, but I just thought having this Roux-en-Y surgery would help me see results faster. So maybe I thought it was my type of workout? This is what I do:

15 minutes of strength training. I start with legs, then move to arms.

20 minutes of cardio, usually a brisk walk on a treadmill.

Any advice?

Thank you,

LaToya

My advice:

#1 - patience. You've had surgery 2 months ago. That's not a whole lot of time.

#2 - perspective. Losing 1 lb a week.... when have you been able to do that before surgery? and if you could, did you keep it off?

#3 - it sounds like you're burning calories & building muscle mass pretty quickly, so how many calories are you consuming? You know that you can actually slow down weight loss by not eating enough, right? And your RD should have given you guidelines of what to eat, when and how to compensate with exercise to have a calorie deficit but not so much that you bonk out or inhibit weight loss. And remember that adage that muscle weighs more than fat - - so if you're building muscle while burning fat, you're not going to see much of a change in the scale.

#4- just my opinion, but carrots at 2 months out? I probably had PB within the first year but carrots were just too high in carbs for my plan.

I agree with the other reply. You are very early out so give it some time. I also felt like I was not losing fast enough. Then 6 months out I looked back and was surprised at how it really went. I would also ask if Peanut Butter is ok with your Dr.? I am not allowed (over one year out) to eat over 10 grams of sugar per serving and 5 grams of fat per serving. Peanut Butter is very high in fat. I know some people that try to say because it is high in protein that makes it ok, but there are far better choices for you at this point in your weight loss. Try not to get too discouraged, give yourself some time and just really look at everything you are eating. One pound a week is good and it will only continue to get better as long as you don't give up. Best of luck to you!

You have to do more cardio. Twice a day if you can, morning and night, to jack up your metabolism. Start slow, but if you're walking, 2 45 min- 1 hour sessions a day isn't out of the question if you really want to lose more weight.
