Adding Strength Training...WOW!

I am new here but I have been reading posts and doing research here for awhile. I love the support everyone gives here. I recently began working out consistently with a great support team who is doing the same, might I add. I did my first interval training last Saturday (jog 3 mins, walk 1 for 30 mins) and my 2nd one on Monday (jog 8 mins and walk 1). Yesterday we incorporated strength training. WOW! I am in so much pain. My legs feel like they are on fire. I can barely get up and down my stairs at home. This just reminds me how out of shape I am and is a bit discouraging. I am suppose to interval train this evening but I feel like I won't be able to make it through. I know I have to push myself...I have to do this for me. I have failed at every other attempt to get health, I feel like this has to be it. I have to see this through. I feel trapped in this body.

Do you stretch before doing your workout and after?

The first few days are going to hurt worse than any other time when you begin lifting. It's natural though, building muscle is a process of ripping and healing over and over again. It's why you should alternate what parts you work out.

Congratulations on taking the first steps. Keep at it. It isn't easy and shouldn't be. You'll be amazed at what you can accomplish.

Thank you. I am discovering that I am stronger than I realized and it's a good feeling.

Definitely make sure you are doing proper warm up / cool down / stretching.  You are going to be sore anyway, but no reason to compound the problem!    Keep at it..... you'll get there. Remember, slow progress is still progress!
