cheap ideas for more burn

So I'm a cheapskate when it comes to certain things.... mainly, I'm not going to buy a gym membership. Period. So of things that you can do indoors, what do you all like for extra calorie burn?

As I get fitter, even long runs aren't burning very much for me (like my Garmin said I burned just 736 cals for a 13.1 mile run today!) so I gotta up my game. We have speedwork on Wednesdays, so I have that to look forward to, but on "rest/crosstraining days", I really should do more to keep up my heartrate. Here's what I have on hand : a treadmill, jump rope, resistance bands, free weights, bellydancing DVDs, and a Wii. So I'm thinking using any and all of the above might get the burn going....

If you are not doing strength training you might want to add that.  Also, one of the issues I have it that when I run I keep my HR in high zone 3 and 4.   When I had my metabolic testing, I burned most of my fat in zone 2 and 3. I was surprised!   So, the elevation of HR doesnt tell the entire tale.   I burn an extra 100-200 cal when I add core work 3 days a week.   Its look like you have everything you need at home!!!   Who would have ever thought we would start to get fit enough we dont burn enough calorie!!  Enjoy your fitness!!!

just my 2 cents on this is that you don't follow a healthy, fit and active lifestyle just to burn calories.  You lead this lifestyle to accomplish things you never thought possible, to enjoy life and what it offers.

Burning calories is a bonus.

Definitely weight training!  I love P90X workouts and after 4 years still get great workouts from them.

I also thought I'd NEVER join a gym since I have a home gym in my basement, but I did join one a few weeks ago with my daughter....that is the only way she'd commit to work out.  It is a "rough" gym.....it is in an old auto shop, just some flooring, paint and boxing bags...they teach boxing and boot camp....I go to boot camp 2-3 times a week now in addition to running and P90X.  I'm enjoying the change, and if I get tired of it, I can quit with 30 days notice (and it is only $35 a month).

I NEVER thought I'd get to where I was so fit I'd have to keep upping the ante, but alas, I see it coming!

I am glad that your body has become very efficient at running. Some gyms have free gym trials. 24 hr has 3 day trial membership. I have been doing this Les Mills Body Pump and Core training class. I found the class challenging. Maybe you have try several different gyms and try some classes.
