New knee pain - Possible shoe issue?

Having gone through a left knee fracture/dislocation with a lengthy period of immobilization and months of extensive (and expensive) physical therapy  several years ago, I am very aware of any anything that goes on in my knees. I've got early onset arthritis in the knee but thankfully it doesn't limit me too much.

About 4 months ago I visited my local running store and we talked about what I wanted out of a shoe and what my plans were. I got set up in a nice neutral shoe (Brooks Ghost 5) which was a welcome change as I had previously been in a stability shoe with a custom orthotic (which I really wanted to get out of). I'm guessing that I might have about 250/300 miles run in the shoe, I haven't kept an accurate count (I will next time).  It's the only pair that I run in. For the past week or so, I've started to have some right knee pain, my healthy knee! It's not bad and doesn't keep me from running or doing any other activity but it is there.

Could my running shoes need to be replaced already? Nothing has changed about my running routine, # of days, distance, surfaces, etcetera.

For worth it's worth - I'm still no lightweight, at about 155 pounds or so.

When my knee hurts in a new spot I look at my shoes/gate first.  My shoes have changed with wt loss and as I increased my miles.  Does your running store has a treadmill and camera?  I was amazed at the difference in change in gate with different shoes.  I am also 160 and I only go about 5 months before I get new shoes.   You could also have them take a look at the soles and check out the wear patterns.   Just a thought.  Hope you get it fixed!

Of course you could just be running to fast!!!

Lots of 5K's, 10K's., 4 1/2 Marathons, 3 Sprint Triathlon done. 2 Olympics and my  First IRONMAN 70.3 September 2013 and First Full Marathon Dec 2013  !!!!!

Ha! I'm sure my speediness is totally responsible!!

I guess I'll be making a trip to talk to the running gurus, to at least rule the shoes out as a source. I just wasn't sure if they could breaking down already, as the soles really don't show too much wear yet. I don't really relish the idea of watching the playback of me on the treadmill, as they do have a video set up but I guess it probably needs to be done again.

My running store told me that you can expect 500 miles out of a pair of good running shoes....which I will say is exactly what I get....I can feel them breaking down from the inside when it is time.

Definitely pay a visit back to the shoe store and discuss.  Oh, and do you have arthritis?  I do, and the winter months are just the pits for me.....my knees take turns hurting.

155 "no light weight"......????!!!  It is in my world!  :)

I've definitely had problems with shoes.  I took back 2 pair before I found my current running shoe, but the pain was always right away with the first run in them.
