Making a marathon decision

After talking with my pace coach and training group yesterday, I think I'm going to sign up for a First Time Marathoners program with my running club, with a goal of running my first marathon in October. Marine Corps Marathon, here in DC, sells out pretty fast but it coincides best with my plans this fall so I'm tentatively going to put it out there that I'll start training with the program in May to be ready for my first marathon in October. Soooo intimidated by this..... I'll probably feel more confident after my second 1/2 in March but this feels like a big decision!

I have only done 2 1/2s with my third coming up in Feb and I keep thinking about a full.  At the St. Jude 1/2 we split off from the full pack and I kept thinking "what if"???   I know my knee wont take the training to run it the entire way, so I am planning on signing up for St. Jude in December with a walk/run plan.  I will probably fell like puking when I hit the button, but I really think I can do it,  especially with the training I will be doing for the 70.3 in September. I really feel like this is my year.  Congrats on a big decision!!!  I hope I can make the same one in a few months!!

The Marine Corps Marathon is one of the few Full Marathons I would like to do. You are going to do great in it.

Nicole, you've got this!  I'm envious!  My old knees wont stand up for a full--ever! But I'm cheering you on!

I did a 1/2 and was so ready to start training for the full the minute the 1/2 ended. I began training and did the full one year after my first 1/2. It is a whole new ball game to train for the full. I had to be super disciplined and learn the whole "science to re-fueling", which is not something you have to think about for the 1/2. There is a big difference, but I highly recommend doing a full once in your lifetime!! It truly is life changing. My goal was always just to finish and nothing more. Good luck to you!!  You can do this!!
