Anyone have a great marathon training schedule?

I've been following one that you run three times a week, and cross train twice and two days off. Does this sound right? It feels funny to not do anything two days a week. My Fit***** isn't happy with it either :-)

Surgery March 23/2011. Completed three full marathons and two half marathons, two half Ironman distances. Completed my first Full Ironman distance (4 km swim, 180 km bike, 42.2 km (full marathon) run) in Muskoka August 30/2015. Next Ironman Lake Placid July 23/2017!

I used Hal Higdon's training program for my half marathon  - it was the same. 2 shorter runs during the week, a long run on the weekends and 2 cross train (or 1 x train and 1 short run) and 2 days off. Rest is absolutely important for training - dont be tempted to sacrifice those days! Make sure you have a good stretching routine too!

Your Fit***** might complain but if you dont rest your body will complain more :)

I used one from my running shoe store   solesportsrunning.com.  I liked it.  There was one day of total rest before your long run.

I used Hal Higon as well. But I also used Running By the Book.  Its designed to be a Bible study as well has Half Marathon Trainer.  Her full Marathon version is in the works as well.  Both are free online.  It took me a bit to get used to it, but as my miles got consistent and increased the 1-2 days off was great.  :-)

Thanks so much! I'm jumping into the intermediate one, as i've been running for a bit, and spinning and doing cross-training for over a year. I figure if I can run 15k now, then I can start at the intermediate level. Starting the actual schedule on January 5th, which works perfectly for a half marathon in early March and my full on May 5th. :-)
