When does exercise cross the line?
Hello folks,
I'm curious to find out what you think. When does healthy exercise turn into obsessive? I recently had the "fear of God" put into me. Several people I know who had RNY gained back a lot, if not all, their weight. Before, I was going to Planet Fitness and working out for 45 minutes before work Monday through Friday. Now, I'm going everyday and adding weight and/or reps to my workout. Yes, this is causing a bit of discomfort on the kness and such.
So when does being conscientious become obsessive? On the 30th, I will be four months out. I don't want to undo any good. How often do you all excisee and is this normal?

there is a distinct difference in "pain" and "sore". If you are experiencing "pain" - sharp or injury related -stop now. All you will do is set your self up for a very long recovery period. Or hopefully recovering.
I consider myself obsessed with health more than exercise. Which means when my knees (IT bands) are super sore, I do something different or take a rest day.
Regain is more likely to be caused by diet - saw somewhere 80% of success is diet, 20% is physical.
Thanks for the replies folks! I haven't given myself pain yet, just soreness. I think some of it could be that I'm pushing 50, as well. I will keep an eye on it and make sure I don't injure myself. I used to take the weekend for a break but now it I just feel better after exercise so I'm doing seven days a week.
No worries about me backsliding on the diet. I changed my eating habits around this time last year...lost nearly half my weight pre-surgery. I can't even imagine eating the way I used to. It makes my pouch quiver! :)
Thanks again!
Karen
"Obsessed" is a word the lazy use to describe the committed... Just sayin! 45 minutes a day 5-6 times a week is far from being obsessed in my book.

I wrote this a few years ago. If you enjoy it, don't worry about it.

Unless your family, your job, hour health etc suffer from your "obsession" then you have nothing to worry about. 45 5 days a week is about normal for many people. If you enjoy it and your life is improved from it then keep going!
