Hydration/nutrition plans

Yikes - I just realized I am 9 days away from my 1/2. Between injuries, and being sick - my training has....slacked a little. Ive only done a couple long runs (8-9 miles).

I'm trying to think about nutrition/hydratrion for the 1/2 since I havent had much practice. I found this calculator online that said for any anticipated 2:30 half, I should take in about 30 oz of fluids, 300 calories (46g carbs/11 protein).

Does that sound reasonable?  Im pretty sure I'll only be able to take in gels if anything since I can't run with food in my stomach. I tried some gu chomps once and not only do I suck at chewing and running, it sat like lead in my stomach.

Im excited and terrified all at the same time.

I carried my own water and added to it at the water stops.  Since I cant drink regular gatorade or powerade I filled up my water bottle with G2 and added water to it along the way.  I dont usually eat before I run, but I got up 2 1/2 hours early and had a half of a PBJ and of course my coffee!!!!!  I used a GU about every 2 miles, which in retrospect was probably to much, but I was worried about that "I am gonna die, I am so tired " feeling I get when I run out of carbs. I only ended up using 4 and I felt great.  I am so excited for you!!!!   I cant wait to hear how it goes!

Coffee mmmmm....I guess if I get up early enough, I could have a small coffee, otherwise I'll be peeing every mile.

I can't wait to share with you :)

For my 2 stand alone halfs I wore a hydration belt with a single 20oz bottle and used a couple of the aid stations.  I sweat a ton so I used Hammer Fizz Endurolytes in the water bottle I carried, and drank right as I began to get thirsty.  For nutrition I do a gel every 35 minutes.  This plan had me slightly over a 2:20 and feeling good (except for torn hamstring) at the end.

Now on the half in the HIM well different story because I was seriously dehydrated.  On that I drank A LOT!  I also used Salt Pills instead of the Endurolytes and they probably saved my race.  Nutrition I did more than I usually would have I think I was at 4 gels and 2 bags of Chomps  which put me higher than I usualy would have been, but again it wasn't my most shining moment.

Make sure you have a decent meal the night/afternoon before, listen to your body and have fun.

First, I'm so excited for you!!!! At 9 days before, I'd be thinking "what pharmaceuticals can I take to keep me from clawing the walls?".
Second, I feel you on the not eating thing. I'd been playing around with my nutrition and it lead to me having a seriously gross case of the runs off of coffee, mid-run! Do you do ok on G2? Or can you tolerate gatorade? I have G2 powder that I plan on bringing along to mix in my hydration belt or handheld.... though in hindsight, I should probably practice the trying-to-mix-while-running thing.  May sound easier than in practice.

A lot of good advice. I will just wish you luck, and keep up with your hydration and food. If you can do oatmeal, and don't mind getting up early its a good source of fuel to start.

Have lots of fun, I know you will. Can't wait to hear how its goes.
