Exercise and Calories - cross-post

HI there. I posted this in my local forum, and hoped perhaps I could get help from all the fitness folk out there.

So, i'm on maintenance, but I would like to lose a few pesky pounds, because I just want to see a certain number on the scale.

With that said, I have upped my protein by adding protein coffee to my mornings. What I haven't done, and am frankly, afraid to do, is eat more to make up for the calories burned during my workouts. Although I can do it very healthily, it sounds like a slippery slope to me.

I am 18 months post-RNY.

But....is it possible that the pounds are hanging on because I don't eat the calories burned?

For instance, today my totals before exercise will be about 1,000 calories. However, I will be burning about 350 calories in my spinning class (I really only account for 350, not the 675 like the gym claims you burn). When you plug that into a program like MyFitness Pal, it minuses those calories, (net calories), therefore needing to eat more.

So my net calories for the day end up being 650. Which, of course, on their own at 18 months post-surgery, is not enough, I realize that.

Any imput?

If it were me, I might just add 100-200 cal pre-workout snack for a little energy but I wouldnt worry about net calories for right now if you are trying to lose a few lbs.

I have a snack pre-workout, and lunch post. I've just been here for way too long. I've changed up my workout many times as well. I was just spinning and doing hot yoga. But then I added running (doing 10k without stopping now), and TRX, Kettlebell, Joga and pilates/Ballet classes. Scale refuses to budge....since April!!! Argh!

Best advice I can give you is work with a nutritionist. I work with on 2-3 times a year to keep adjusting my needs, and increase or decrease calroies or change calorie type based on what I am doing at the time.

Thanks Jay. I have an email into my WLS nutritionist. Hopefully she can give me some insight.

I don't do near the exercise that you do but do zumba, running on the readmill and lifting weights atleast 3x a week. I was told to drink a protein shake before and after my workouts. to me that seems like alot of extra calories even though I use almond or soy milk to make my shakes. You might try something like that.
