I am used to a lot more activity and only being able to walk is driving me crazy.

I am slowly increasing my pace/incline/time since the 2nd day after surgery and am up to 60 minutes/3% incline/2.8-3.3 mph.

I rode my bicycle the other day.  That felt good.

Can I do bicep curls, or other weight lifting that doesn't involve stomach muscles?

Is dancing a good idea?

I've had absolutely NO problems since surgery.  I tolerate foods well, my walking feels great, no pain since day 2.

I am 40 years old, pretty fit, except for the obesity... I'm in perfect health.

definitely a question for your surgeon.  Mine told me strictly "walking only"....probably for 6 weeks.  That was my surgeon's advice FOR ME.  You should feel free to call your surgeon and ask specifics.

I agree, you should check with your surgeon. I haven't had surgery yet, my date is November 5th - I too am very active, at the gym 6 days a week - 3 days of water fitness & 3 days of machines, plus 1 personal training session a week. Plus walking, I love to walk.

My surgeon said I can probably get in the water after 2 weeks but will not be able to be as active aas I am now - and probably not be able to return to the gym machines for a month after surgery. But walking yes, it's allowed as much as I can do it.

Sounds like you are doing well - be careful to check with your dr before increasing your exercise more.

Hi and Wow
You are going to be good , I am not a big excercizer but that has to change, I do have a trade mill and with the snow soon comming I am so glad I do, But I was kinda wondering the same thing, I wanted to join a couple groups like Zumba or jazzercize, I wonder when we can do that.
So have you had any hurdles at all ? what is your main protein ? whats some of your favs?

I wish youContinued Good Luck . I will let you know how things are going after surgery

 Nancy,
The biggest hurdles for me are mental.  I am impatient to be thin.  I think I really need to find something to take my mind off food, weight loss, surgery, etc.  A watched pot never boils.  I need to trust my surgery and just follow the rules and it will come off.

I think zumba or jazzercize would be great.  I want to get back to jogging, but I want to wait until I have taken another 20 lbs off or so because it is much harder on my knees when I jog at this weight. I could be aggravating my knees that'll take six months to heal when if I just waited a month, it wouldn't even matter in the first place.  I have heard that focusing on what you eat not how much you exercise is more important to dropping weight.  Then when you get to your goal, exercise becomes a big part of keeping it off.  I don't know how much truth there is to that.  Establishing healthy habits seems to be good no matter what.

Protein.. Right now I am still on mushies.  So I drink 3 protein shakes a day to get my protein.  Then in between those I have one of the following as snacks:  cottage cheese, Noosa blueberry yogurt, oatmeal, black beans, etc.  It is really hard to keep my carbs and sugars down right now as I can't eat regular food and mushies seems to be more laden with carbs.  I am eating about 900 calories a day.

Good luck with surgery!
