for everything to stop hurting after going to the gym?  I'm new to this and have been trying to get into a routine over the last few weeks.

I have been working out with a trainer since before surgery 14mths ago and there are still lots of days I go home sore.  Make sure you take rest / recovery / slow days to let your body heal.  As you get stronger those exercises will get easier so you will push harder and be sore again... it's a beautiful thing!!
A quote on my desk at work "you can suffer the pain of discipline or the pain of regret"

Thanks for the encouragement! And I love the quote. I'm already living with the pain of regret that I didn't do all this sooner! Onward and upward...or downward on the scale!

Lets see.........I'm 4.5 years into working out.........I'll let you know-I'm still a bit sore everytime I work out.

But it is a good sore...lets me know that I worked some muscles!  I actually feel guilty if something ISN'T hurting a bit!

Keep it up!  I credit my regular exercise as the single most important thing I do to keep the regain at bay!

It might never stop but it'll be less and it'll last for a shorter time. If you are in a lot of pain then make sure you are doing everything correctly. Standing wrong or using too heavy weights early out and cause more damage than good.

Here is a good site to check if you are doing whatever it is right:

No worries on my technique.  I worked with the personal trainer the first two weeks...and he spys on me now if he's passing by when I'm on a machine!  :)  I did have to back off some of the weights the first week on my own but I've actually been able to add some on some of my strength training.

I've been resistant to the treadmills because we walk daily but I may have to add it into my workout.  I don't think I'm getting the cardio benefit that I would from the treadmill.

Thanks for all the encouragement guys!  I appreciate it!

That's how I know I've done a good job.  That achey feeling means I'm doing it right.
