6 years healthy

I haven't been posting lately, but since yesterday marked six years since I had my surgery, I figured it was time to check in.

Participating in the Exercise and Fitness Forum soon after surgery positioned me to adopt the triathlete lifestyle that has kept the weight off.

From my first 5k to my first Ironman, the journey has been filled with the joy of meeting new people and accomplishing things I never thought possible.

Whenever anyone asks me how I have kept the weight off while others gain it back, my answer is: I go outside to play with my friends.

 Cassie:

You're an inspiration. I'm only 3 weeks post op from a VSG. I hope that I'll be in the same place in 6 years myself.

Take care.

Hi Cassie, my name is Destiny. I am 4 years out this month. I had a few problems with energy due to low iron and couldn't work-out for a while. My question is now that I am back to working out how many calories should I have a day? I do zumba on mon, tue, wed and thursdays for an hour and I meet with a trainer on tue and thursdays for an hour. Could you help me out in this area?

Destiny,

I use www.myfitnesspal.com to estimate my calorie needs. Your calorie needs will depend upon your current weight, your regular activity during the day, how long you exercise and if you are trying to maintain your weight or lose more.

I also use it to journal my food intake occasionally if my weight starts to climb. It helps me see where I am falling back into old habits.

It is great that you have been able to resume your activity.

Thank you for sharing this part of your life with us and being here, you are one of the people who made me believe I could do this triathlon thing.

And of course, congrats on 6 years!
