Leg Cramps

Anyone have a solution for preventing leg cramps?

I'm not running, just walking. But if I walk over a mile my leg starts to get cramps but if I keep walking it will kind of go away but feel tight. But after I go home and usually when I go to bed I will wake up all night with really bad leg cramps across my shin, calves, ankles, and even my feet. I can get up and walk them out or soak my legs in super ho****er which helps but about 30min to an hour after I lie back down they come back and I spend all night getting up to walk or soak.

I've upped my potassium before and after I walk, added calcium, drink a sports replenisher or veggie juice after I walk but nothing seems to help. Some nights are more severe than others. I don't want to stop walking but the after walking night is a nightmare I'd like to stop repeating.

I don't know what to do to prevent them, but I DO know how to get rid of them. As soon as you feel the cramp grab all of your toes and pull your foot up toward your body. Do not push down. Try it!

That doesn't usually work with mine because sometimes they are so strong they are already pulling my foot back and my toes are curled backwards. The only consistent way to get rid of them is to walk them out or immerse my legs in as hot of water as I can stand it. But like I said they don't stay away. In 30 min to an hour they come back.

I'm also having an issue with calf cramps during the night, they SUCK!!  I'm going to try a message to work out the muscle, my right calf has become a rock.

I was once told by a PA that too much calcium can cause muscle cramps too, when was the last time your vitamin levels were checked.  Ask your MD or NUT for suggestions.

I have a problem with this as well.  I went to physical therapy for a torn ACL and told the guy I could not do a particular exercise because my calf's were to tight.  He put me on a foot wedge  (http://www.foamsupport.com/shop/cart.php?m=product_detail&p= 34 and had me lean towards the wall for 60 second and then relax for 60 seconds. Lean against the wall so you can fill the back of your calf's stretching.  I do this about 5-6 times in a row and have had a lot of luck with it.  I get this very bad after walking so once I'm done walking I immediately go to the wedge and stretch out.  I get instant relief.  I have to get up sometime in the middle of the night to stretch them out.   Hope this helps.
