5k PR and maybe a new fitness journey (crossfit)

Hey everyone, haven't been on here in a while because life has been super hectic. I do try to read and keep up though!

Did my third 5k over the weekend and came in sub-30, SO exciting! I really love running and pushing myself to keep getting better and going further/faster.

That being said I feel stuck. Pre-surgery there was not a form of exercise that I enjoyed, hence why I didn't exercise. Now I've found running and I love it and am halfway decent at it but I have the same problem as before: I hate everything else and so I don't do anything else. So I'm flabby. Like, really flabby. I have pretty much no muscle tone at all and am so weak that I can't even do a modified push up correctly. A while ago we were talking about CrossFit on here and I looked into it and it was really out of my price range. I've been talking to the hubby though and I think I'm going to try it for a month just to see a.) if I like it and b.) if it can kick start weight loss by increasing muscle. At $100 a month it's not something I could sustain long term but it is something I feel like I need to do for myself to give me the best shot of getting these last 25-30 lbs off.

Anyone on here doing crossfit? Do you like it?

Congrats on the AWESOME PR - thats a great time!

Maybe look into some other gyms and group exercise type things -

I found a little gym thats very bare bones equipment but they have these crazy hard core classes that are tougher than any personal training ive had and they are designed for full body workouts. The best part is I pay $20/month and it's worth a hundred times more just for the kick in the butt I get from the classes!  Before I joined this gym, I was considering getting a personal trainer because I needed to get into a regular strength training routine, but now I dont need to :)   I also considered cross fit, but I'm okay with what I have for now.

 congrats on the sub 30!

I don't do crossfit so can't offer an opinion.  I know a few people that do TRX and love it.  The key is to try a lot of different things and you may just be suprised at what you like doing.  A year ago you probably didn't think you would like running and now here you are a runner.  Drink the kool aid and swim and bike too!

I find spin classes to be my number 1 choice for a workout just because riding my bike in he dark is not always an option and you can get a workout in a spin class that you can't get on the road because of traffic and lights and stuff.

Find something where you are doing intervals and you might see a jump in the calories burned because even though you have some recovery periods that are easier the intervals are more than you can do for a sustained period.

When I get on the treadmill which I need to start doing more it is always an interval based deal pushing harder for a period of time.

As I said you can always swim, bike and run!  that gives you a feeling of accomplishment like nothing you have ever done.

TRX is super hard core - i thought it looked fun to swing from some ropes but I lasted all of 30 seconds haha.

I really want to do crossfit but all the places around me are very expensive and I just can't afford it right now.

I didn't really start exercising until I was about 8 months out from surgery (other than hiking and speed walking my dogs.)  I was skin and bones and had to put on some muscle so I got some workout DVD's.

I started with Tae Bo workouts, some using ball and bands for resistance and they really worked for a couple of years but they were getting too easy and I didn't feel like I was getting a good workout anymore.

So I started doing Insanity last month and I LOVE it!  The first couple of days I thought I was going to throw up a couple of times but now I actually look forward to coming home from work to do it.

I also bought a cheap used recumbent bike that I use as my office chair and do 30km's every afternoon at work.
