Suggestion on timer/chronometer?

Hi All! First time I'm posting to this forum and have a question (in multiple parts): I'm training for a 1/2 marathon and wondered if it'd be useful to invest in a device to track my BPM, distance, etc. I mainly use my treadmill, which may or may not be accurate in calories burned, but at least keeps track of time & distance. When I run outside, I know the distance but my pace might be variable. IF you use a chronometer when you run:
What brand/device do you recommend?
What bells & whistles are useless?
Does yours keep track of calories burned?
Is it tech-compatable (uploadable to a computer?)

My running shoes, Addidas Adizero Aegis, are apparently miCoach compatible but I don't know anything about what that entails....

For right now, I'm just using Nike + GPS on my phone - gives me time, my pace, distance, route, est calories burned. I'm training for a 1/2 but im having plastics right after so im holding off on buying any more gadgets for now - i'm satisfied with the app though for now.

I have a Polar F4 that tracks my HR and calories burned.  I use my phone to track my mileage and pace and carry it in my SPI belt which I love because it does not move while I run.   When I grow up I want a Garmin. :-)   I hope to get one for Christmas, because it would be awesome to have everything in one place.   But since I run in a rural area, I will always take my phone.  I do really like my F4 though.  Monitoring my HR has really helped with the training.  I know when my brain is tired of running (my heart rate is fine) and I am being a bit lazy or when really am pushing it ( my heart rate is more toward its maximum rate) and when I need to back off.  I also LOVE seeing the calories burned.  I think there is a piece of equipment that I can use to upload to my computer, but my Runkeeper app on my phone does that automatically.  The best part about my watch is that is was relatively cheap about 84 $.  I wish you the best in your training.  I am also training for my first 1/2 in September. I am up to 9 miles for my longest run and really stoked about it!!!  Good luck!
