Running into a "Wall"
I realize I am late in chiming in and I hope you have got the help that you need to get over the wall, but I too was struggling for the past 2 weeks and I knew it was mental, but was really stuck getting through my 8 mile long run. In talking to a friend she said I needed to visualize myself finishing the 8 miles. That night after we talked, I tried really hard to visualize myself finishing, but I realized I could not picture 8 miles it seemed like an infinite distance to me. I have since been online and found something in my normal travels hat was 8 miles. I am happy to say that I finished my 8.33 mile run yesterday morning and felt great all the way even the hill.
Another friend also recommended coming up with something I am going to say to myself when my breain started telling me I had to wuit or the hill was too long, etc. IT WORKED!
From talking to people this is a normal, mental thing! :-)
Now, off to picture my next long run!

I may have had a few extra potholes along the way, but the journey has been good!

Amy,
Thanks for the "pep" talk!!!
While most of the "wall" was "physical" (my legs gave out), another part is indeed "mental".
I know there are days when I begin and I say "I will do X miles today" and then there are days that once my foot hit the pavement I say "Ugggggghhhhh we're never gonna go X miles".
Tomorrow I am trying for 7 miles. I know I can do it!!!
Then next time I hit that "mental" wall of not breaking the X mile barrier (so far it's 9), I am going to tell myself do 9.01 miles. If I can do that the next time will be 9.02 miles, and then 9.03 miles and so forth. Hopefully doing .0x miles over 9 will get me to my ultimate goal.
