A new CrossFit box opened up in town and the rates seem pretty reasonable for trainer sessions, especially with the 20% discount they give for certain professions.

Anyone have any experience with this that can tell me a little more about it?

No experience but intrigued to see replies as well. I have never even heard of this, but just googled it and we have a center like 5 minutes from my house! My primary form of exercise thus far has been running but I am SO weak. I can't even do a push up. I need to start strength training asap. I emailed my local place to ask for info and apparently they have you do a free session to check it out. I'll be sure to let you know what they say if/when they respond.

Just out of curiosity, what were the rates?

The rates for this one were $105 for 2x/wk and $125 for 3x/week.  "Boot camp" rates were a little different and offered up to 4x/week.

Then police, emt, fire, and teachers get a 20% discount (I am neither but my hubby works for a school district), and then there's a 10% additional family member discount as well.

We pay about $90 for 3 of us to have access to the gym.  Just access, no training.  The CrossFit sounds more like personal training sessions and that's pretty reasonable for 8-12 sessions a month!  If it includes gym access with it it's even better (I have to call and ask), ,but it is still a BIG chunck of change for my hubby and I.

I have pretty awesome upper body strength from yoga (yes really :) !) doing planks and chatarangas and etc...  But I'm sure I'm far from being anything but a beginner.  I'm not afraid of hard work and sweat...

I am SUPER weak too!!  I just started couch to 5k and doing a Jillian Michaels video on the opposite days.

I can't even begin to do all that she does in the video, but I do what I can and hopefully, eventually, I will be able to do most if not all of the video.

Don't feel bad, I can't do a push-up either :-(

We have CrossFit on base so it's free.  I have to modify a fair bit because I have zilch in the upper body area but I burn mad calories and it's a fast workout.  It feels like I step through the door, sweat pours off my body and then I'm leaving.  Hydration is key.

I can't do a "real" push-up either, hell I struggled with those when I was in the Army.  So I do them on my knees.  Where I struggle the most in the class is at the pull-ups because I can't even support my weight let alone do an actual pull-up.  So they put a box under the bar for me and I just change how much I'm pulling by the amount I put on my feet.

It's HARD, I have a puddle of sweat under me.  I would consider it on par with a "smoking" in the Army.  It's 40 min. of go go go.  But it's fantastic at the same time.  Noone, even the super fit Marines in the class, have ever looked at me like what the hell are you doing here.  They've all been supportive as I was still finishing my reps and they were done 45 sec. ago.  It's a great class and I'd fully recommend going to one.  I would recommend asking if they have a beginner class first so you know how to hold the weights properly and all that stuff because you don't want to riks injury.  Be ready to burn calories!

The local place emailed me back...introductory session is free, first month special price is $100 for unlimited classes. Which, in a perfect world is not bad at all. In reality I cant swing that. Ah well, looks like I need to keep looking for a strength/toning program to do on my own.

Google "boot camp exercises".  I've been taking some local boot camp classes and the equipment needed is minimal, the exercises are easy, and you will burn some calories.

There are all kinds of boot camp workout plans out there... but there's no motivation that comes with it.  I really kinda need that push... but do I need it for $100/month?

I should just do it.  I spend more than that a month on nothing.
