Couch to 5K question

I would like to be able to start running/jogging. My rny was about 9 weeks ago. I have been using a recumbent bicycle for a few weeks and also walking. My problem/question is this, I have osteoarthritis and had bilateral knee replacements a couple of years ago and do not know if there should be some modification to achieve this goal. I have never been particularly athletic but now would like to attempt something like the couch to 5K. I want to do this and not exacerbate any musculoskeletal problems. I cannot consult my orthopedic surgeon, he died 2 weeks ago as a result of an unfortunate polo accident. All suggestions are welcome.

I would find a different Ortho and ask this question. Surely your orthos files were transfered to a different doctor or practice.

I would definitely check with an ortho first.

One step at a time...Literally!!  Like other say, check with your new orthopedic surgeon.  As you walk (if there is no pain), I would think you should start by walking further and further.  If you have built up to 2-4 miles of walking (with no problems except soreness) you can do the C25K.  Take it slowly and build up the endurance and the leg muscles.  If the legs can take the pounding of the jogging, you are good to go.  Jogging takes different muscles, and with knee replacements, it may be difficult.  If you can't jog, continue with the walking or find some other exercise.  For many of us, just walking and finishing a 5K if big accomplishment!!  I would love to jog...I have a bad back, so I have taken up the bicycle...Never looked back!!

the good thing about the couch to 5k is it builds you up very slowly.

so you can easily monitor yourself by starting, if your body is saying no stop.
