A Terrific Event Yesterday- Can U Recommend One?
Did the Hatfield McCoy half yesterday and I can honestly say that while the course was very rough, it was the Best half ever! AWESOME volunteers, finish, etc and the commemorative mason jar topped it off! Best of all, it's in my hometown area and I was there with my friend every step for her first half!
There was also an elderly gentleman there who completed his 500th full yesterday ... Now that's inspiration!
This has made me realize that the overall feel of the race is what I want to focus on-- any recommendations for an excellent half/full experience??

Be happy.
Bill's right, Disney puts on a good time.
I think my best race experiences are often at really small grassroots races where there are homemade cookies and lemonade at the finish. People are always so lovely and supportive.
That said, the "BIG" races like the Boston Marathon are amazing in that the crowds are supportive and people really come out for them.
I did the inaugural Rock N Roll Providence Half last year and it poured, but running by all the bands every mile was pretty neat. I think it will be extra fun in better weather. I think the Rock N Roll series is worth experiencing.

Depends on what you are looking for. I am definitely a Disney guy but if you are looking for a pretty course, head to New England in the fall. The Leaf Peepers 1/2 is mostly run along a river and is pretty flat. Another is Applefest in New Hampshire. Not sure if you subscribe to Running Times or Running mag but those showcase cool races every month.
