Resting while bike riding??
Just wondering how you bicyclists rest while riding your bike? I either ride in the city...stop and go. Or on dedicated bike paths if I can. Many times I will ride around the neighborhoods in my area for a quick work out (like this evening)...Very few (or none) full stops.
So when you are on a ride and want to or need to rest; do you increase your cadence and then glide, or do you just slow down your cadence, or drop down a gear? Basically how do you rest while you keep moving??

If my legs need a break, i usually drop down a gear or two and keep my cadence up - if I can.

I typical am more comfortable pushing bigger gears at a lower cadence. I don't so much need a rest, but a good stretch so I'll just stand on a nice flat stretch and bounce a bit to stretch the muscles. Where I live and ride there are enough hills that are steep enough that you have to drop gears and go a lower cadence but the downhills you get going to a point that pedaling is pointless.

For me, riding is all about finding the "Happy Effort" meaning, I switch up my gearing/cadence often so that I'm always pushing the same effort so matter what the terrain. This helps me keep a steady pace and I can go for many many hours (like 6 yesterday).
However, other than coasting, I would have to say the easiest way to rest is to drop a gear.
Good luck,
