Been a while but I need advice please

Hi everyone.  After finally recovering from my hernia and plastics last September, I've finally gotten back into training and have my first half marathon on May 6th, the Diva Half in San Francisco.  I'm actually training 2 friends (it will be their first) and another friend is doing it too and we've plans to stay at the hotel the night before and have a great girls' weekend.

Just found out from my doc that my stomach pain is caused by gallstones and he wants to take it out.  He'd like to take it out next Wed. (April 18th), I'd be out of work for a week or two.  As long as I'm not having pain (I've been sticking to a very bland diet with lots of protein shakes since last Saturday), he'll let me wait to have it out until after the Diva.  But do you think I could get it out next Wed and recover in time for the Diva?  I can stick to just protein drinks and mostly meat and carbs (as in matzoh right now****il then.  I've been afraid to eat any fruit or raw veggies or much else.  What's your opinion?

Thanks.

You might be able to recover, but your doctor needs to tell you how much time you need for recovery. I would think the operation and getting healthy should be more important than a half marathon.

Ordinarily, I might agree, and even gave up a half I wanted to do in Oct. last year because my hernia wouldn't wait.  Had surgery in Sept. for the hernia along with panni removal, then a week later thighs and lower back/butt.  I'm finally feeling well enough again and have been training really hard for this half.  Plus, I'm training two of my closet friends, it will be their first and we're spending the night before at the hotel for the half and making it a girls' weekend.  So it's not just me, and we've been planning and training together for months.  I'm feeling great, just have to watch what I eat.

Thanks.

No, don't get it out before the Diva. It's too risky and there's no need to have it done ASAP as long as you aren't having attacks. I had to wait 6 weeks to get mine out and that was just because of scheduling.

With an abdominal surgery it could easily be 4 weeks before you can run again and the Diva is only 2.5 weeks after your surgery.

Thanks.  That's what I'm going to do, though it will mean missing Bay to Breakers too.  Probably the Wed. after the Diva, and I'm being VERY careful of what I eat between now and then.

Hey, do you have any suggestions for restaurants that Sat. before the race.  We're staying at:

Marriott Hotel - San Francisco Bay 1800 Old Bayshore Highway

Burlingame, CA 94010

Thanks.
