Elevation Gains?
What is considered a difficult run in terms of elevation gains? Today my run was + 474 meters or 1556 feet (from Google Maps not Garmin) and I am not sure if that is good or just average. I live in a pretty hilly area and I could potentially add more if needed. My runs usually have just over 250 meters of elevation gain or 820 feet. I never run more than 7.5 miles per run.

sounds pretty hilly to me. elevation is very relative, hills that are moderate to light for some people may be a deal breaker for others. also, factors like gradient weigh very heavily. i.e., i can run forever on slightly sloping/low gradient hills, but the short/medium sharp inclines and declines wear me out quickly.
Where are we going?? And why am I in this handbasket??
right now. somewhere. somebody is working harder than you.

Sounds pretty hilly to me. The 307M over 4.5K would work out to 7.7% grade according to my calculations ( http://veloroutes.org/tools/ ) That is still a killer incline over that far. I wish I could find something that steep and long around my home on the coast. I have found some hills that are 11 or 12% but they are only 1/3 mile or less. I'm not sure where you live but it sounds like you should be a candidate for the Mt. Washington road race (12% over 7.6 miles)
