Running a half marathon 4 months out
Ok I want your advice....I ran a half marathon at 250 lbs in 4 hours I trained for 3m before that and I was never a runner. I did body pump and spin in the gym and trained doing couch to half marathon LOL. Who knew that existed. So my friend asked me to do a Rock and Roll Marathon with her. She is a runner she does her half in 3 hours so I won't be running with her but chasing her HAHA.
But do you think I should start the training for it have the surgery and work on walking my way back to running again when I am cleared to run? How long after your surgery did you start to run?
She wanted to do one on May 19th but my surgery will be right around that point. I thought hmm how fun would that be to do another one before surgery but I will have just had surgery or be in the liquid diet part and no way I am racing on just liquids.
Has anyone ever done a Rock and Roll half marathon?

I think that if you can run it before surgery, it would be fine and would probably help with your recovery. If it's after surgery I would give it a few months to heal up and get back in shape. My first race was 6 months after surgery but it didn't have to be that long. I did a 12 mile race less than 8 months after surgery and that too was fine. I would think that 4-5 months could be a good target if you are in pretty good shape going into surgery.

i say go for it if you are able and willing. i just caution folks to take it easy and ease into training, a lot of people (myself included) end up with over-use injuries when they first start out. best of luck!
Where are we going?? And why am I in this handbasket??
right now. somewhere. somebody is working harder than you.

As many of us here know this really isn't the place to come to have people tell you know not to try something. Just be sure you are safe and smart about it. Train smart and run safe when it is time, immediately after surgery isn't the time to push yourself hard.
But go for it
But go for it
