Tonight I finished the week three day one Couch to 5k run. Really getting worried about the 5k mud run I signed up for....It is 3/31! I was reading about how you should be able to do at least 20 push ups and 6 pull ups before the run, and I can't! Actually I can't do any pull ups. Maybe three push ups.
I see there are training programs that help you step it up to 100 push ups.
Anyone else trying this ? Not that the two weeks would be enough to get very far, but better than nothing...right?

The push ups and pull ups thing is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Not sure who wrote that but it has nothing to do with running the 5k.

I would work toward the 5k - complete that and then worry about the push ups and pull ups. Good luck with your race!!!

It's a mud run.. which has obstacles.. I'm sure that's where the recommendation for the situps and pull ups comes from.

Oh - missed the part about the mud run.  Still, I wouldn't concern myself too much with the strength part with a few weeks of traing left.  Keep working the cardio!!!

I just looked at the official mud run website and it seems like if you're just registered as a fun run participant, and not competitive, then you can skip obstacles if you want.  So I would just go have fun and get dirty and not worry too much about it.

It takes about two weeks for fitness gains to be incorporated. So nothing you do in the two weeks leading up to your race are going to make you fitter for it. You would actually be better served by taking it easy the week of the race, both so you don't injury yourself right before, but also because fitness gains happen at rest.

All the pros "taper" before big races just for this reason. They want to PR so they want to be in peak physical form. By taking it easy race week (and sometimes the week before), they show up on race morning fully rested and raring to go.

I know it's tempting to think "I'm not ready!" and push yourself harder but it backfires. Just relax and know you've done what you can do.

Thank you all for the advice. I am going to rest a couple says before the race, it would be nice to not be sore.
